The Coney Island Polar Bear Club is the oldest winter bathing organization in the United States. They swim in the Atlantic Ocean at Coney Island every Sunday from November through April. Since 1903, they have been hosting a public New Year’s Day Plunge for all brave souls to welcome the New Year. The Polar Bear Club welcomes everyone to their annual plunge where loyal bears, cubs  and guests can plunge into the frigid cold Atlantic Ocean. The event is free, but donations are encouraged to help The Polar Bear Club in Coney Island. If you want to be a part of an iconic tradition, step out of your winter coats and furry boots and join the Polar Bear Club members. If it’s too cold for a plunge in the Atlantic this New Year’s Day, you can still be a part of Coney Island history. Consider a  contribution to the Polar Bear Club of Coney Island as they seek to raise $80,000 for the continued growth and programming of our vibrant and diverse community. This year’s plunge will raise funds to create a more sustainable and cleaner environment, programming for Coney Island youth as well as improve quality of life for residents.

We hope to see you on January 1, 2020 at 1pm at the Boardwalk & Stillwell Avenue.

Whether you are a native New Yorker or just a visitor of this beautiful state, you can’t miss the famous Luna Park located in historic Coney Island. Let us shine some light on the things you can do in Luna Park besides rides.

First things first, the scenery of Coney Island will put you in a very nostalgic mood. From the vintage architecture of some incredible stores, to the Parachute Jump, an iconic boardwalk that was recently declared a New York City Landmark and so much more. Besides the wow factor of Luna Park and thrill rides that we offer to our guests, we have plenty of delicious foods.

Who doesn’t like good food?

Just think about this, it’s a very hot summer day and nothing tastes better than freshly made gelato at Coney’s Cones, which is located on the boardwalk next to Luna Park with kiosks within the property. If you feel like grabbing a quick lunch or even dinner, we offer a variety of amazing foods here as well. Starting at Flywheel eats located across from the iconic Coney Island Cyclone where you can grab anything from ice-cold soda to our signature whac-a-burger, which isn’t complete without French fries and thick frosty shake. Next stop by The Half Moon Food Court, for boardwalk treats including cotton candy, funnel cakes and tangy nachos. If you love pizza, then you can’t miss Al Cavallino. Our pizza chefs straight from Italy use the freshest authentic ingredients to create pizza magic. Where else in NYC can you sit by the beach and enjoy a custom pizza and a beer?

For adults who like to go out with a bang, let us introduce you to Place To Beach – an ultimate party place where delicious drinks and urban music of Brooklyn clash into a beautiful mix. What could be better than a good swim in the summer heat and beautiful relaxation after? We would like to note that Place To Beach is open until the early morning, so the party never stops or as the Beastie Boys say – no sleep till’ Brooklyn!

Picture Perfect

The mermaid mural located by the entrance of Scream Zone is one of our most instagrammable places. If you are looking for colors to get the perfect shot for your Instagram, our thrill ride – Thunderbolt has every single color of the rainbow at night! You need to see it in person in order to get that “wow” moment, believe us when we say it’s worth it!

Make Some Luna Memories

To make your trip to Coney Island memorable, make sure to stop by our souvenir shop to get official Cyclone gear, Lifeguard swag and maybe a Thunderbolt tee, which is going to remind you of your adventures here in Luna Park!

What are your favorite things to do in Luna Park?

1. Scream Zone Slayin’ & Place To Beach Sippin’

Who knew the Scream Zone gate could be so instagrammable? Not only did this guest slay with our gate in the background, she also did it while sipping on a drink from one of our dining options, Place To Beach. She definitely caught our attention by showing so much Luna love!
@valfrangieh

2. Luna Games Glam

Not coordinated enough to win a prize at our games? That’s okay, this guest shows us how to use our colorful Luna Games as the background of her latest post. Who knew Luna Park guests were so artsy?
@wwanderlux

3. Spinning Out of Control

You spin me right round baby, right round! These two were getting ready for takeoff on Electro Spin and looked so cool that we had to include them in our list. We appreciate the balance of happiness in her smile and mystery in his expression. We hope they enjoyed the ride!
@o_kyla_g

4. Gates to Unlimited Fun

We had to give a shoutout to @muniraelsaiedy for capturing our big bright lights on our front gates. These big gates welcome hundreds of thousands of people every season from around the country, even from around the world! When our guests enter these gates, they know they’re in for a day full of fun.
@muniraelsaiedy

5. Make a Splash!

This family went on Wild River together and they have the photo to prove it. It’s so exciting (and mostly hilarious) to see our guests’ ride photos and the expressions they make. You never know what reactions you’ll get when you hop on our rides.

They say good things come to those who wait and we’ve been anxiously waiting all year for this day!

Our beloved Coney Island Cyclone is turning 91-years old on June 26th and she’s still going strong. This New York City Landmark is a Coney Island staple and an all-time favorite ride to guests who visit from all over the city in search of a thrill. In honor of this special celebration, here are seven reasons why we LOVE the Coney Island Cyclone.

1. Egg Cream Christening

Every year we host the annual egg cream christening of the Cyclone to welcome the new season at Luna Park. Members of the press come from all over the city to catch a glimpse of this Coney Island tradition. Most importantly, friends of the Cyclone make their way back to us every year to participate in this event. Did we mention the first 100 guests in line always ride for free?

2. Cyclone Hair

You don’t need to get your hair done to ride this coaster because after the first drop, you’ll be sporting a new hairdo called Cyclone Hair. With gravity defying locks, we promise you’ll be the talk of the town!

3. Cyclone Face

You can’t have Cyclone hair without the right face to match! Cyclone Face comes in a variety of  expressions and levels of excitement. You do not choose it, it chooses you. The only way to find out which expression you’ll get, is to go for a ride.

4. Cyclone Hill

What is there to be said about that magnificent Cyclone hill? It will surely take your breath away as you slowly rise to panoramic heights and go over the ledge on an exhilarating 85-foot, 60-degree plunge at speeds of 60 mph. But more importantly, it’s very Instagram-worthy.

5. Cyclone Souvenir Shop

After conquering the mighty Cyclone hill, you’ll want to snag your ride photo from the souvenir shop and show off to your friends that you were up for the challenge. However, the real reason why we love this shop so much is that even if you weren’t ready to take on the Cyclone, you can still purchase some awesome merchandise and join in on the fun.

6. Celebs Love Us

Let us start off by saying that to us, all of you are celebrities! But can you blame us for STILL being excited about the time Beyonce visited the Cyclone? Credits

Not only do American artists enjoy the Cyclone, but so do our neighbors from across the pond. Check out Rita Ora‘s action shot during the first drop! The girl knows how to have fun when she is in Brooklyn! Credits

Did you know we’re also popular among four-legged celebrities? Shaggy and his little sister Dottie are quite the Instagram stars and were spotted skating by the Cyclone.

7. Staff

We saved the best for last because none of the above could be possible without them. The greatest reason why we love the Cyclone so much is because of our wonderful staff who work around the clock to make sure this ride is safe and fun for all of our guests.

We hope you make it down to Luna Park to help celebrate this big day! These are our reasons why we love the Cyclone, what are yours? Let us know in the comments below!

It seems like just yesterday we celebrated the Cyclone’s 90th birthday and just like that, we are back to do it again. The Cyclone was built on June 26th 1927 , declared as a New York City landmark on July 12, 1988 and in 2011, Luna Park officially took over the operations.

The Cyclone tops everyone’s list of things to do in New York City so get ready to shake, rattle, rumble and roll over 2,640 feet of track featuring 12 drops and 27 elevation changes that still has the stuff to take your breath away. Slowly rise to panoramic heights of Coney Island and grip the bar very tight, as you go over the ledge on an exhilarating 85-foot, 60-degree plunge at speeds of 60 mph. Cyclone is an all-time classic amusement park ride that’s kept rollercoaster lovers coming back since 1927!

After the ride is over, don’t forget to grab a photo at the Cyclone shop to keep the memory alive!

In June 2014 a Luna Park opened a ground-breaking ride in the history of Coney Island. A famous Thunderbolt had been revealed to the guests of the Luna Park.

The projected price of building this thrilling ride was $10 million and it has been designed and constructed by famous Zamperla Inc. a ride manufacturer of many unique rides which are featured all over the world. A hair-raising 90-degree vertical drop, hurling The Thunderbolt at speeds up to 55 mph over an exhilarating course highlighted by a 100-foot vertical loop, where you fly over airtime hills, float through an 80-foot zero-gravity roll, race around a 112-degree over-banked turn and hold tight as you cruise toward the Thunderbolt’s corkscrew section and dive on a one-of-a-kind ride you will never forget. This ride features 2,234 feet (681 m) of track, a height of 115 feet (35 m), and a top speed of 56 miles per hour (90 km/h).

The engineering of this ride is so detailed, that it employs more than 250 security sensors to provide safe and enjoyable ride to all of our guests. In addition to make this ride memorable, every guest who rides a Thunderbolt can get their picture taken during the ride and allows you to purchase a memorable souvenir from your visit. It’s a great way to showcase your friends and family that you “Did it” for real this time.

At Luna Park, we love Thunderbolt so much, that we even dedicated our own hashtag – #ThunderThursday which will feature cool facts about the ride and of course it might be you, who we will be featured on our social media, how about that?

Let us know in the comments if you took a ride on our Thunderbolt!
