Following a brief closure for maintenance, this beloved American treasure is ready to once again deliver heart-pounding thrills to visitors from around the globe.

Since its debut on June 26, 1927, the Coney Island Cyclone has been a core fixture of the Coney Island Amusement District and remains one of Luna Park’s most cherished operating landmarks. Located at the intersection of Surf Avenue and West 10th Street, this wooden wonder reaches a maximum speed of 60 miles per hour and boasts a total track length of 2,640 feet.

Over the years, the Zamperla family has invested millions of dollars of their private funds to restore the Coney Island Cyclone and continues their financial commitment to ensure New Yorkers and visitors alike can experience the iconic roller coaster for generations to come. On June 21^st beginning at 6:00 PM, Luna Park will celebrate the historic expansion, featuring NYC’s first 50ft oceanside ropes courses and adventure zones, integrated roller coaster and water flume attractions, food and beverage locations, and pedestrian plazas. Guests, visitors, and local community members alike can join in on this incredible celebration like never before with a free event featuring special carnival-style performances, music, entertainment, and treats at the new main entrance of Luna Park on Stillwell Avenue.

BROOKLYN, NY, March 27, 2023 – New York City’s most iconic amusement park, Luna Park in Coney Island, known for delivering thrills and memories to visitors for generations, is welcoming guests back for a memorable 2023 Season on Friday, March 31st at 12:00 PM EST.  Celebrating 120 years since the original inception of Coney Island’s Luna Park in 1903, Opening Weekend will culminate with Donation Day and the egg cream christening of the Coney Island Cyclone on Sunday April 2^nd.  In honor of the iconic coaster’s 96^th birthday, the first 96 guests to ride the Coney Island Cyclone will enjoy a free ride and an egg cream treat courtesy of Luna Park.  On April 2^nd, Luna Park in Coney Island’s will also be kicking off the season with its annual Donation Day, and donating proceeds from the day’s sales to children and youth charities, including the Coney Island Sharks, Give Kids The World Village, and Operation H.O.O.D..

In a small ceremony, held at the historic 115-year-old B&B Carousell, NAPHA presented Central Amusement International Inc. Dear Friends,

Good news, New Yorkers are demonstrating their strength and resilience in the most difficult of times and it’s paying off. With continued decreases in the infection and hospitalization rates, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced that beginning Friday, April 9, outdoor amusement parks can reopen with a 33 percent capacity limit and additional safety measures in place.

Like all of you, I’m thrilled to hear the news and I cannot wait to share laughter and joy with all of our amazing guests and team members. The health and safety of our guests and team members is always our primary focus, and we are happy to continue working with our government and health officials to ensure that when we open Luna Park in Coney Island, we will create enjoyable memorable experiences for everyone in a safe and fun environment.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have been building on the many existing safety measures at our amusement park and will be implementing public health protocols according to CDC and health agencies’ guidelines to maximize the protection of our guests and team members. We are thankful for the decreases in the infection and hospitalization rates, and we are hopeful for additional encouraging news as more vaccinations take place.

We are excited to reopen in 2021 with 6 new attractions geared towards our youngest guests and to continue the Coney Island tradition of seaside thrills and fun!

We thank you for your continued loyalty, patience, and understanding. We remain optimistic navigating this challenging time with COVID-19, as we know the resilience of New Yorkers, Brooklynites, and Coney Islanders.

Above all else, please continue to take the necessary precautions to mitigate this pandemic and stay healthy. On behalf of our entire team, we cannot wait to welcome you back to Luna Park in Coney Island.

This is the first-ever contest to design the front of the Coney Island Cyclone.

On December 15^th, Luna Park in Coney Island partnered with The Alliance for Coney Island and hosted a holiday party for local children at MCU Park. The children and their families enjoyed pizza and sweet treats. They created some holiday crafts and got their faces painted too. Each child received a toy and got their very own visit and picture with Santa Claus. This event brought local businesses together with the community to celebrate the start of the holiday season.  Luna Park supports the local community all year long, but especially loves making the kids of Coney Island smile.

Luna Park in Coney Island congratulates our Chief Innovator and President and CEO of Zamperla, Alberto Zamperla on his induction into the IAAPA Hall of Fame. Mr. Zamperla was inducted 15 years after his father, Antonio Zamperla. His contributions to the growth of the amusement park and attractions industry as well as creator of some of the most innovative rides in the world lead to this honor. Mr. Zamperla has brought some old classics as well as new one of a kind rides to Luna Park in Coney Island. Mr. Zamperla is an entrepreneur, innovator, leader and family man. During his acceptance speech, Mr. Zamperla thanked everyone, especially his family.

“First of all I would like to thank IAAPA, its organization and its people for being of such important support to our industry.

My sincere thanks also to those who nominated me and supported my nomination; to my whole family, my wife Paola, my sons and my employees, for always putting up with me and for being such an incredible group of valuable, dedicated, passionate people; to all Zamperla’s customers too, who have believed in us and motivated us to work harder to give them the best products and services in our capacity.

This award celebrates my contribution to the amusement industry and business.

The Coney Island Polar Bear Club is the oldest winter bathing organization in the United States. They swim in the Atlantic Ocean at Coney Island every Sunday from November through April. Since 1903, they have been hosting a public New Year’s Day Plunge for all brave souls to welcome the New Year. The Polar Bear Club welcomes everyone to their annual plunge where loyal bears, cubs  and guests can plunge into the frigid cold Atlantic Ocean. The event is free, but donations are encouraged to help The Polar Bear Club in Coney Island. If you want to be a part of an iconic tradition, step out of your winter coats and furry boots and join the Polar Bear Club members. If it’s too cold for a plunge in the Atlantic this New Year’s Day, you can still be a part of Coney Island history. Consider a  contribution to the Polar Bear Club of Coney Island as they seek to raise $80,000 for the continued growth and programming of our vibrant and diverse community. This year’s plunge will raise funds to create a more sustainable and cleaner environment, programming for Coney Island youth as well as improve quality of life for residents.

When the Luna Park crew battens down the hatches and the ride sets sail, each side of the ship will compete against each other to show off their excitement! You and your crew must scream your loudest sea-chanty to win. Each sides volume will be measured by a high-tech system, so you have to be sure to shout your loudest!

Step into our black lit neon paint splattered arcade and you will immediately be transported to 1985. This is the real deal. We have some of the best old school games in town. Do you remember Street Fighter Champion Edition, Mortal Kombat, The Simpsons or Tetris? We have them all and more. We are the only old school arcade around.

Our beloved Coney Island Cyclone is turning 91-years old on June 26th and she’s still going strong. This New York City Landmark is a Coney Island staple and an all-time favorite ride to guests who visit from all over the city in search of a thrill.
